Physiology & Appearance
Pombon is a short, quadrupedal canine Pokémon characterized by a large head, short limbs, and a puffy, curly tail.
Coloration: Its body is covered primarily in fluffy orange fur. However, it features distinct red accents: the tip of the tuft on its head and an oval patch of fur on its chest are colored a deep red. It also sports a red nose.
Distinctive Features: Perhaps its most unique physical trait is its paw pads. They are red and shaped to resemble the Japanese Kanji symbol for fire.
Biological Functions: Inside Pombon's lungs sits a specialized organ capable of generating intense heat. When active, this heat causes the red patch of fur below its throat to glow faintly.
Personality
Pombon is known for its temperament. It is described as innocent, friendly, and guileless. Unlike some Pokémon that may be wary of humans, Pombon is naturally affectionate and approaches trainers with a warm disposition.
Origins & Etymology
Design Inspiration
Pombon appears to be based on the Pomeranian, a breed of dog known for its small size and fluffy coat.
Name Meaning
- Pombon: Likely a portmanteau of Pomeranian and bonfire. It may also derive from pom-pom (referencing its fluffy appearance).
- Pomuken (Japanese): A combination of Pomeranian, homura (炎, meaning flame), and ken (犬, meaning dog).
